Nasal Spray Technique

After reviewing all the different recommended ways to use a nasal spray, Dr. Park recommends the following technique.

Hold the bottle in your non-dominant hand and pump the spray with your dominant hand (your writing hand).  This method leaves the bottle very still during the pump.  Doing it all with one hand tends to cause the bottle to move.

Hold the bottle vertically straight up and down with no tilt at all.

Tilt your head so you are looking straight down.  "Look at your toes when you spray your nose!"

Put the tip of the spray at the opening of the nostril.  Do NOT insert it into the nose.  Doing so increases the risk of a bloody nose.

Hold your breath when you pump the spray.  Do NOT sniff in.  Doing so increases the amount that drains down your throat.
